Delores Camilla MacLean, 42, Scotchtown NS

Born in New Waterford, Delores, age 42 was violently taken from her family on September 10, 2004.

Delores was a devoted, stay-at home mother of five children, ages 7-17 at the time of her death.  Her five children are the legacy she left behind.

Delores enjoyed music and sharing laughter along with a weekly game of cards with her family.

On September 10, 2004, after a heavy night of her husband’s drinking, Delores and her husband started arguing over finances and Delores’s growing obsession with TV Evangelists. The Accused punched Delores in the throat and removed her from the house. After returning home, the Accused burned her pajamas and buried her teeth and glasses under the doghouse.  Ten days later, her nude remains were found in a wooded area near their home.  An autopsy determined Delores had been strangled.

Prior to Delores’s murder, police were called to their home on occasion in response to domestic violence.  Many times, Delores and her children had to flee the family home to escape from the Accused’s violent outbursts, particularly while he was intoxicated.

In November 2006 the Accused pled guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison with no eligibility for parole for a minimum of 12 years.

The Accused was granted full parole in 2018.
