Linda Brennan, 40, Eastern Passage NS

Linda Brennan, age 40 was shot and killed by her husband of eight months during ‘a silly argument,’ according to her husband.

Linda’s daughter describes her as having “a heart of gold” and as always being there for her.

On March 30, 1996 Linda and her husband were on their patio drinking beer.

Linda’s husband had been depressed about the breakup of his first marriage.

After a visiting relative commented about that relationship, Linda’s husband went to the bathroom and slammed the door, breaking a picture.

Linda became upset about the broken picture and her husband’s preoccupation with his former wife. They argued until her husband left to go to the gym.

After forgetting his keys, Linda’s husband returned to the house where she was alone, and the argument continued.

During the argument, Linda called her husband “a drunken asshole, just like the other two.” Her husband then went to the gun rack, grabbed a gun and shot Linda, killing her with a single gunshot.

Linda’s husband pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 14 years in prison. At that time, it was one of the longest sentences in Nova Scotia for domestic manslaughter.
