Marcella Zaedow, 54, Garland, Kings County NS

Marcella Zaedow was murdered by her husband on November 21, 1999.

Marcella was born in Newfoundland but lived in the Annapolis Valley for at least 20 years prior to her murder.

Marcella was a mother to an adult son and two adult daughters. Marcella’s husband had originally been from Germany.

Friends and neighbors of the couple described them as hard working, compassionate people who were victims of poverty and an uncaring society.

Marcella enjoyed crafts and flowers, especially working with dried flowers, growing them from scratch. Marcella owned her own dried flower business and was well known throughout the province.

Marcella delighted in bird watching, living with nature and working from the land. She also enjoyed listening to the music of Jim Reeves.

On November 21, 1999 Marcella’s husband shot her and their dog before turning the gun on himself.
