Maureen Theresa Carrick, 21, Dartmouth NS

Maureen Carrick was only 21 years old when her 18-year-old ex-boyfriend murdered her at her place of employment on February 12, 1991.

Two weeks prior to Maureen’s murder, her current live-in boyfriend received a call from Maureen’s ex-boyfriend, who was a friend to each of them. The ex-boyfriend explained that he had had an affair with Maureen, was sorry and was considering killing himself.

After the phone call, Maureen’s current boyfriend called her to say he would pick her up at work.  Maureen was a receptionist at an office in Burnside.

When Maureen’s boyfriend arrived at her workplace, he stated that he could smell gun powder and blood. The shooter was still there and advised the boyfriend to get out or he would be killed, too.

Maureen’s boyfriend ran next door, telling people to call the police. He then returned to Maureen’s place of employment.

Upon returning to the office, Maureen’s boyfriend found two of Maureen’s co-workers shot but, alive. He then found Maureen, dead from a gunshot wound.

Maureen’s ex-boyfriend was also found dead by the front door. He shot himself in the head with the same high-powered rifle that he used to shoot the others.
