Tragic history was made on April 18-19 2020, when the lives of 22 people were taken during a violent shooting rampage starting in Portapique and ending in Enfield.

The shootings have been called-out by the media as a violent demonstration of misogyny.

Since the shooting, survivors, victim’s loved ones, first responders, impacted communities and the province as a whole are in various stages of grief, shock, mourning and healing.

Here is an update of supports to help heal Nova Scotia in the wake of tragedy.

Heal-NS Trauma Research Program

Heal-NS Trauma Research Program, launched on June 15, is an initiative to conduct in-depth research of the broad yet profound issues in Nova Scotia that resulted in the mass shooting.

A varied group of professionals from universities and health agencies in Nova Scotia will be researching topics such as gun violence to help the province gain insight into underlying causes of the tragedy. Heal-NS welcomes suggestions as to what topics should be researched through this initiative.
