Sharon Anne was violently taken from her family and friends, on December 14, 2004.
Sharon was born in Halifax, on February 4, 1962, but grew up in Halifax, Charlottetown, Burin, St John’s and Corner Brook. Sharon had been employed with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation for 20 years and prior to her death, worked in child care services.
Sharon touched the lives of many with her exuberance and zest for life. Sharon was a talented artist, an avid reader and she loved travelling. Sharon’s younger sister described Sharon as an intelligent, articulate person with a creative flair and a genuine friendliness that endeared her to her many friends.
Shortly before Sharon’s murder, the Accused, with a history of aggravated assault, robbery and attempted sexual assault, moved into an apartment on the same street as Sharon.
Sharon was last seen on December 3, 2004 and reported missing one week later.
On December 14, 2004 Sharon was found on a dirt road in the Hammonds Plains area by a walker. The police believe she was killed elsewhere, and her body dumped in the woods. Sharon died from blunt force trauma to the head.
On February 25, 2008 the Accused was sentenced to life in a federal institution without eligibility for parole for a period of 20 years.
